Signs of a healthy church - Acts 2 - Pastor Desmond Henry

Many churches are growing! But how healthy are they???

Acts 2

So what are the signs of a healthy church?

1. Spirit-filled / Spirit-Led Leadership
Lead from a point of spirit filled leadership, not our own understandings

2. Spirit-filled preaching and teaching (Acts 2: 16f)
Focused on the word of God, being spirit led in our preaching and teaching

How healthy am I? Is my life centered on the word of God and empowered through the Holy Spirit?

3. People turning to Christ (Acts 2:41)
"I want to stand up for Christ"
How commited are we, as Eastsiders and individuals professing to be Christians, prepared to go out and to find and save the lost?

4. Hunger for the Word of God (Acts 2:42)
God's word is a living word, if we allow the Holy spirit to impact the word of God into our lives. God's word speaks into our lives, IF we allow it to!

Fill your life with His word and allow the word to tranfor your life

5. A desire to be together (Acts 2:44)

6. Breaking of Bread together (Acts 2:42)
Make this part of our daily lives. Remember me, God said, by sharing and breaking bread together.

7. Passionate Prayer (Acts 2:42)
Prayer can change circumstances and can change us!

Give thanks to God through prayer. Practice being in God's presence
God see's and hears everything

8. A sense of awe and wonder about what God is doing (Acts 2 :43)
Do We have this sense for this year?
What can God do through each of our Lives?!?

9. Extravagant generosity (Acts 2:44)
Willful and own choice giving. What does God want me to do with my resources, not just money! Giving of myself, time and funds for God.

10. Purposeful Unity
A. Large and small groups (Acts 2:46)
B. Joy .. Sincerity ..
C. The Lord added to their number daily.

What are we doing in the will of God to enhance the health of your church???

Why Gods Champions?

Its all about honouring the God Almighty. The giver of talent, allowing us to honour Him through challenging it to the maximum.

I believe that when I started this blog I was led by the Holy Spirit to be part of Sportsmen and Women, from all walks of life giving their testimony of faith,their walk with God and the role that God has played in their lives and more so within their sporting lives. That picture still remains, however the purpose has shifted through the posts to also include and share about my walk, others walk and sharing of their faith and ultimately challenging ourselves, athletes and coaches to walk an unwavering road to the ultimate prize.

As sporting professionals (athletes and coaches) we have been blessed by the Lord God with abundant talents and it is always amazing for me to see how they are abel to utilise these God given talents within the sporting arena. More so it is encouraging for me to see how through our bodies and talents, you are able honour God through their faith.
My wish, as when I started this blog, is that a platform is created for Christian sporting soldiers, a platform to profess their faith, interact with other believers and provide support and strength from and too one another.

During the Beijing 2008 SA Olympic trials, I was amazed to see the faith of some of our swimmers that I was working with at that time and how they swam for God, were willing to publicly profess their faith and in turn become inspiration for fellow athletes. These swimmers, along with many other athletes were and are an inspiration to me personally and i trust that through this blog, them and many others will be able to spread the gospel.

In reading Ecclesiates one morning before coaching, during the time of starting this blog, I came across this in Chapter 3 v 1-9. It is all based around the fact that God says there is a Time & Place for everything.This I believe is one of the greatest challenges for many athletes especially when they are looking for performance BUT it may not be the right time. What a challenge for each one of us to know that God has a plan for a us all. Sometimes it is not evident to us, other times it is, but just maintaining the faith and belief in him we will move towards glorifying His name.

I was challenged a few years back with Proverbs 16v3 (Commit everything to the Lord and your plans will succeed). I still would like to commit this blog to Him and I trust and pray that it is used to the fullfitment of His name and prophecy. God Bless to all who enters this site and especially to all those athletes who are walking the tightrope of life and sport.
